5 hurt as BCL men attack land office
At least five people, including an official, were injured as upazila land settlement office here came under attack allegedly by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) yesterday.
Police said, Farhad Ahmed Khan, general secretary of district unit BCL, walked out of an arbitration on a disputed land at the office in Beanibazar upazila at about 12:30pm.
Later, 30 to 35 BCL activists, equipped with sharp weapons, attacked the office at about 1pm and assaulted officials and employees, leaving five of them, including upazila settlement officer Asim Kumar Saha, injured.
They also ransacked the office and looted its valuables and documents, police said.
The injured were admitted to upazila health complex.
Settlement officer Abdul Hye Azad said they were preparing to file a case against the attackers.
Meanwhile, officials and employees of the settlement office observed a two-hour work abstention to protest the attack.
Besides, an emergency meeting on law and order situation was held at the UNO office following the incident.
