No charge sheet yet in Faruque murder case

Police are yet to submit the charge sheet in the case for killing of Rajshahi University (RU) unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist Faruque Hossain two years ago. Tofazzel Hossain Khan, officer in-charge of Detective Branch (DB) of police in the city and also the investigation officer of the case, however, said the investigation is over and the charge sheet will be submitted soon. On February 9, 2010, Faruque Hossain, a resident student of Shah Makhdum Hall and also a master's student of Mathematics department, was hacked to death allegedly by Islami Chhatra Shibir men on the campus. More than 100 BCL men were also injured in the attack. Following the incident, the then unit BCL secretary Mazedul Islam Opu filed a murder case with Motihar police station accusing 35 Shibir men. Of the accused, 25 are now on bail, said police sources. Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed and Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Saydee were also shown arrest in the case. They are now behind the bars in connection with the crimes against humanity. Meanwhile, the university authorities are yet to take action against any Shibir men involved with the violence while the probe committee led by Prof Golam Kabir placed a report with a few recommendations in this connection to the authorities one year ago. Regarding the issue, pro-vice chancellor Prof Muhammad Nurullah told this correspondent that the authorities did not take any step according to the probe report as the resume of the Shibir activists involved in the bloodshed is yet to be collected. Leaders and activists of the university unit BCL observed the second death anniversary of Faruque on the campus yesterday urging the authorities to meet their demands including the punishment to the killers of the slain activist. Around 300 BCL men brought out a procession and held a rally on the campus to mark the day. Addressing the rally, BCL unit president Ahmed Ali and general secretary Abu Hossain Bipu urged the authorities concerned to immediately bring the murderers of Faruque to book.
