One killed as Bogra villagers clash

A man was killed and 11 others were injured as two groups of villagers clashed over a piece of land at Anarpur village in Dhunat upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was Ayub Ali, 26, son of Abdul Jalil Fakir of the village. According to Dhunat police, there was a longstanding dispute between Jalil Fakir and Abed Ali of the village over a piece of 16 decimal land. Locals said an altercation started at about 7:30am between the supporters of Jalil and Abed when the latter went to take possession of the land. Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons, locked in a fierce clash, leaving Ayub seriously hurt, said Taffazzal Haque, OC of Dhunat PS. Later Ayub died at Dhunat upazila health complex at about 9:00am. On information, police went to the spot and controlled the situation. Injured Zahidul Islam, 30, Farid, 28, Ranju, 28, Abed Ali, 45, Abdul Mannan, 32, Kamal, 26 and Khoka Box, 30 were admitted to Bogra Shahid Zia Medical College Hospital while Abdur Razzaq, 40, Sabina Begam, 20, Abdul Hannan, 40 and Bekuli Khatun, 40 to Dhunat Hospital. In Magura, at least 20 people were injured in two separate clashes in Sadar and Sreepur upazilas on Tuesday morning. In Sreepur upazila, at least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups of people over cutting bamboo from a disputed cluster at Joka village. Police and locals said supporters of Awami League leaders Ishaq Member and Chand Ali engaged in the clash with lethal weapons and sticks, leaving 10 people from both sides injured. Houses of Abu Taleb, Abu Hossain, Abu Ishaq and Kawser Ali were also vandalised and looted during the clash. Of the injured, Azam Molla, Oliar Rahman, Shahida Begum, Liton, and Abdus Salam were admitted to Sadar hospital. In Sadar upazila, 10 people were injured when two groups of people clashed at Beroil village in the morning. The clash ensued as supporters of local Awami League leader Motiar tried to illegally occupy a piece of land of Ishaq. Both the groups equipped with lethal weapons locked in the clash that left 10 people injured from both sides. Eight of the injured were admitted to the Sadar hospital.
