Two top outlaws arrested with arms, bombs
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel yesterday arrested two 'regional commanders' of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) along with arms and bombs in Meherpur.
The arrestees are Daud Hossain, 45, son of Kazem Ali of Terail village in Gangni upazila in the district and Khalilur Rahman, 35, of Rajapur village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia district, reports UNB.
Sources said, a team of Rab-6 led by Gangni camp commander Lt Sazzad Raihan raided Terail village and arrested Daud along with a shutter gun at about 5 am.
On his confessional statement, the Rab members later arrested Khalilur along with two bombs and two sharp weapons from Mirpur upazila. The elite force also recovered leaflets and documents of the outfit from their possession.
Police said Daud and Khalilur were wanted in a number of murder, robbery and other criminal cases.
In Pabna, outlaws have demanded illegal toll from Sujanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
Police said, outlawed PBCP Red Flag faction operatives threatened UNO HM Nurul Islam on Tuesday over cell phone of dire consequences in case of his failure to pay the toll.
The UNO filed a general diary in this connection, reports our correspondent.
Officer in-charge of Sujanagar police station Ahsanul Haque said, the callers claiming themselves as outlaws, asked the UNO to pay the extortion money.
Identifying themselves as members of PBCP Red Flag faction, they also threatened to kill him, the OC said.
The UNO filed a GD mentioning the cell phone number, he said. Police is investigating the matter, the OC said.
