4 drug peddlers jailed, several others arrested
Four drug peddlers were jailed while several others held in five districts on Monday.
A mobile court sentenced three people to various terms of imprisonment for possessing drugs in Kapasia upazila town of Gazipur on Monday.
The convicts are Rafiqul Islam, 30, son of Abdul Latif (jailed for one year) and Dulal, 28, and Taij Uddin, 35, of Uttar Kham (6 months each), reports UNB.
Police arrested Rafiqul along with 50gm of hemp from Bus Station area on Monday and Dulal and Taij with 100gm of hemp on Sunday night.
In Lalmonirhat, a drug smuggler and peddler was jailed for one year at Mogholhat border village on Monday morning, reports our correspondent.
Convict Alom Miah, 22, is son of Subez Ali of the border village.
Police said, Alom Miah was held with 25 bottles of phensidyl at Mogholhat border by BGB on Monday night and later produced in a mobile court.
In Jessore town, police in separate drives arrested three alleged drug peddlers along with 4kg of hemp and 38 bottles of phensidyl on Monday night.
The arrestees are Joinal Abedin Jony, 27, son of late Maniruzzaman of Raghunathpur village of Benapole, Masud Rana, 30, son of Jamal Hossain of Chachra Raipara area of Jessore town and Barkat Ali, 29, son of Torfan Ali of Rajarhat area, reports our Benapole correspondent.
In Magura, Detective Branch of police in separate drives arrested four alleged drug peddlers along with 106 bottles of phensidyl on Monday, reports UNB.
The arrested were identified as Yasin Ali, 28, Zinnat Ali Sardar, 50, of Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira district, Khokon Sheikh and his wife Rahela Khatun, 40, of Doarpar in the district.
DB sources said they raided a bus at Magura bus terminal at about 1:20pm and arrested Yasin and Zinnat with 18 bottles of phensidyl.
In another drive, the DB men raided the house of drug peddler Khokon and recovered 88 bottles of phensidyl from the house. The law enforcers also arrested Khokon and his wife in this connection.
In Rangpur town, Detective Branch police arrested two drug peddlers along with 2.5kgs of hemp on Monday night, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees were identified as Khairul Alom Sumon, 28, son of Kachim Uddin of Shingimari village of Hatibandha upazila under Lalmonirhat district and Alomgir Hossain, 22, son of Motiyar Rahman of Shingimari village of the same upazila.
