Housewife murdered for dowry
A housewife was murdered allegedly by her husband for dowry at Railpara in the town on Tuesday.
On information, police recovered the body of Nazma Khatun, 18, daughter of Abdul Khaleq of Tarinipur village in Damurhuda uapzila, from the bathroom of her residence and sent it to hospital for autopsy.
Police quoting locals said, Nazma was married off with Kalu Sheikh, son of Nurul Bux of Bara Dudhpatila village in Damurhuda about four months ago.
Family sources said Kalu used to torture Nazma for dowry regularly. On the fateful day, he beat Nazma dead over the issue.
Office in-charge of Sadar PS Faruk Hossain said police suspected that Kalu strangled Nazma and left the body in the bathroom of their rented house.
Faruq went into hiding after the incident, he added.
