2 Jasod Gonobahini men arrested with firearm
Arms recovered in 3 districts
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-6) arrested two alleged members of Jasod Gonobahini, an underground party, from Mirzapur village under Shailkupa upazila early yesterday.
The arrestees are Amirul Islam alias Babul Joarder, 50, son of Abdul Goni Joarder of Mirzapur village and Roman Joarder, 27, son of Golam Nabi Joarder of the same village.
Commanding Officer Captain M Ashraf Ali of Rab-6 in Jhenidah said, on a tip-off, a Rab team led by commander himself launched a drive at Mirzapur village under Shailkupa upazila and arrested the active members of Jasod Gonobahini. They also recovered a shutter gun and a bullet from their possession.
They were holding a secret meeting at Amirul's house at the time of raid, he said.
The rest of the cohorts of Amirul manage to flee, the commander added.
In Gaibandha, Rab-5 in a drive recovered two firearms and ammunitions from village Bishawnathpur in Gobindaganj upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
A team raided the houses of Fazlu Prodhan and Chinu Prodhan in the village and recovered a country-made revolver, a .22 gun, one magazine, five 7.62 point bullets, four 303 rifle bullets and one bullet of 9mm pistol.
The arms and ammunitions were recovered by digging the earth in the houses.
Sensing Rab presence, the house owners fled away.
In Kushtia, Rab members arrested five arms peddlers and recovered firearms, ammunitions at Farkapur village in Bheramara upazila on Monday afternoon, reports our correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off that a gang will meet at Farakpur railway gate to sell illegal firearms, a team from Rab-12, led by Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) Atiar Rahman, took position there at about 3.30pm.
The Rab team encircled the gang when they were handing over the arms near Hanif Pharmacy at Farakpur at about 4.25pm.
Later, Rab recovered a shutter gun, one LG and three bullets from them and arrested five arms traders.
The arrestees are Akterul Islam, 32, Faruk, 40, of Charsonatala in Daulatpur, Shuvo, 22, of Khilgaon and Nazir Uddin, 30, of Nazir Bazaar in Dhaka and Yasin Ali, 43, of Khemrdia in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia.
The arrestees were handed over to Kushtia Sadar police in the evening.
