'Robber' killed in mob beating
An alleged robber was killed in mob beating at Kulihati village under Keraniganj Model police station early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Selim, 30.
Police said, a gang numbering 10-12 stormed into the house of Joj Miah breaking open the door at about 3:00am. They took the members of the house hostage at gunpoint and looted seven tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 1.65 lakh, four mobile phone sets and other valuables worth Tk 6 lakh.
However, Mofiz, brother-in-law of Joj, caught Selim while the robbers were decamping with the booty. Later, hearing the screaming of the house members for help, local people rushed in and gave the alleged robber a good beating, leaving him injured critically.
On information, police rescued Selim and took him to Mitford Hospital in the morning where doctors declared him dead.
A cut rifle and two bullets were also recovered from the scene.
Three cases -- one for murder, one for robbery and another under Arms Act -- were filed in this connection.
