2 siblings hacked to death
Two siblings were hacked to death at Batkila village in Monirampur upazila of district yesterday afternoon.
The victims were identified as Sharmin Akter, 14, daughter of Jamir Sarder of the village, and her younger brother Kabir Hossain, 12. Sharmin is a student of class nine while Kabir of class six.
As the news spread, a pall of gloom descended in the area.
Monirampur police said there was a longstanding dispute between Jamir Sarder and his relative Siraj Sarder over a land at the village.
As a sequel to the incident, the duo was hacked to death allegedly by Siraj at around 4:00pm.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent it to Jessore Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy Siraj went into hiding after the incident, police added.
