Two commit 'suicide' together
Two college students allegedly committed suicide together at Tagur Malitha village in Shailkupa upazila early yesterday as the family members rejected their love affair.
The deceased were identified as Washim Kumar Biswas, 22, son of Nivir Kumar Biswas of Protap Nagar village, and Purnima Mondol, 18, daughter of Biren Mondol of Tagur Malitha village in the upazila.
Washim is an honours first year student of Magura Government College while Purnima a HSC first year student at Langolbandth Degree College in the upazila.
Ahsan Habib, officer in-charge of Shailkupa police station, said there had been a love affair between the young man and the girl for long, but Purnima's family turned down the relationship.
Shocked at this, they allegedly hanged themselves from a mango tree beside Purnima's house at midnight.
On information, police recovered the bodies from the spot and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.
