Two-day KCC festival begins tomorrow
Stage is set to hold a two-day Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Festival-2012 that will begin at Shaheedd Hadis Park in the city tomorrow.
Such move is being taken for the first time in the country to exchange views with the mayors of country's all city corporations on how to reach better civic services to the doorsteps f the people and also to create awareness among the people about the best use of the civic facilities.
KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque said this while briefing local journalists at Nagar Bhaban conference room yesterday morning.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak will inaugurate the festival at 10:00am.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian will attend the concluding function as chief guest on Thursday.
Mayors of five city corporations have confirmed their presence in the two-day festival, KCC mayor said. They are Md Manjur Alam of Chittagong City Corporation, AHM Khairuzzaman of Rajshahi City Corporation, Badruddin Ahmed Kamran of Sylhet City Corporation, Shawkat Hossain Hiron of Barisal City Corporation and Selina Hayat Ivy of Narayanganj City Corporation.
Manusher Janno Foudnation, which promotes human rights and good governance, will sponsor the festival in association with Rupantar, a non-governmental organisation.
The two-day festival is also aimed at sorting out problems and obstacles standing in the way of ensuring good governance by promoting civic rights.
