3 youths commit 'suicide'

Three youths allegedly committed suicide in Thakurgaon, Magura and Sylhet districts on Monday. A young man allegedly committed suicide by setting himself on fire at Ghoni Moheshpur village under Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon, reports our correspondent. Police and family sources said Saidur Rahman,20, son of Mahabub Alam locked the door of his room at about 4:00pm, doused himself with kerosene and set on fire. Family members claimed Saidur had been suffering from mental illness for long. He was alone at home at the time of the incident. In Magura, a mentally challenged youth allegedly committed suicide at Simakhali village in Shalikha upazila. The deceased was identified as Akram Khan, 30, son of Babar Ali of Kamarpur village of Bagharpara upazila, reports UNB. Locals said Akram had been suffering from mental illness for a long time. OC of Shalikha PS Shamsul Haque said Akram committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree branch. Local people found his body and informed the police. In Sylhet, a rickshaw van puller allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Dalaipara village at Khadimnagar in Sadar upazila. The deceased was identified as Belal Mia, 30, of the village. Family sources and neighbours attributed the suicide to extreme poverty. They said Belal climbed a hillock near his house and drank pesticide in the morning. Locals rescued him in an unconscious state and admitted him to Sylhet Osmani Medical Collage and Hospital where he died at 11:00 am.
