<i>Kidnapped Prarthona's body found in septic tank </i>

Ratan confesses killing, Galib at large

Schoolgirl Prarthona Sarkar, kidnapped two months ago in Puthia upazila, has been found murdered. Police recovered the decomposed body of 10-year-old daughter of Parimal Sarkar of Badopara village on Monday from the septic tank of the latrine of one of their neighbours. Police said Prarthona, student of class four at Kashiapur Government High School, was kidnapped from her house while playing with her sister on November 12. Parimal filed a general diary with Puthia police station on November 13. He also filed a murder case accusing Ratan Kumar Mandol, 25, son of Nitai Mandol, and his friend Nazmul Haque Galib, 20, son of Abdul Kalam Azad on December 27. Police arrested Ratan and took him on a two-day remand. During interrogation, he confessed to the killing of Prarthona. Later, the law enforcers arrested Galib's father as his son went into hiding. On confessional statement of Ratan, police recovered the decomposed body of Prarthona from the septic tank at Galib's residence. Police also arrested Galib's mother Nasima Begum, 40, and sister Kamrunnahar Keya, 20, and one Ashutosh while recovering the body. During interrogation, Ratan told the law enforcers that he and Galib took Prarthona to the house of the latter and raped her. Later, they killed her and dumped the body in the septic tank. They also sold her two gold earrings for Tk 2900at a jewelry shop at Taherpur Bazar in Bagmara.
