AL, Jubo League men clash in Bogra: 5 hurt

At least five people were injured in cocktail blasts and gunfight as activists of Awami League and Jubo League clashed in Gabtoli upazila over purchasing delivery order (DO) letters of the government's test relief programme yesterday afternoon. The injured are AL activist Ibrahim, 38, Jubo League men Sujon, 19, Zakir Hossain Paiker, 19, Ripon Mahi, 21 and Mihajul Islam, 21, said police. Of the injured, bullet-hit Mihajul was admitted to local hospital while the rest were given first aid. Abdur Rashid, officer in-charge of Gabtoli police station, said the clash ensued at around 1:00pm between the supporters of Azam Khan, president of upazila AL unit, and Azizur Rahman, an activist of Gabtoli municipality town unit of Jubo League and convener of Bangabandhu Sainik League, over buying the DO letters. Witness Mohammad Sumon said he heard at least 10 to 12 gunshots during the clash which police denied. At least six to seven cocktails exploded during the hour-long clash in the area, the OC added. Abdur Rashid said a general diary was filed in this regard. Azam Khan and Gabtoli municipality Jobo League Convener Hazrat Ali blamed each other for the violence.
