BCL attacks procession at Rokeya university
At lest 15 activists of Progotishil Chhatrajot Begum Rokeya University unit were injured yesterday in an attack allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men on a procession.
Of the injured, Utpal Kumar, Ujjal Kumar, Ahsan Habib and Babul Aktar, were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition while the rest were given first aid.
Nironjan Chocrobarty of Kaler Khantha, and Armal Ali of a local daily newspaper, who came under the attack while covering the procession were also injured.
Campus sources said Chhatrajot university unit brought out a procession protesting first year admission fee hike. At one stage, a group of BCL activists equipped with iron rods and sticks attacked the procession in front of the university dean complex.
Altaf Hossain, officer in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said additional police have been deployed on the campus to avoid further trouble.
The authorities have increased admission fee to Tk 7,190 from Tk 5,690.
