Housewife murdered for dowry
A housewife was allegedly beaten to death for dowry by her husband in Enayetpur upazila on Tuesday night.
The diseased, Angura Khatun,27, was daughter of Amjad Hossain of Subarnasara village in Belkuchi upazila.
Police and family sources said Angura was married to Abdur Razzak of Ajugara village under Enayetpur upazila in 2007. During marriage, Razzak demanded Tk 50,000 as dowry.
After marriage, Angura's parents paid Tk 50,000 to Razzak as dowry. Later, he again demanded Tk 1 lakh as dowry from his father-in-law. He somehow managed the amount and handed it over to his son-in-law. Razzak became greedy and demanded more money from his in-laws.
On the fateful night, Razzak created pressure on Angura to bring more money. But she refused to fulfill his demand. This has infuriated him. He indiscriminately beat her causing her instantaneous death.
Being informed, locals sent Angura to Enayetpur hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
Later, Enayetpur police recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Razzak fled away just after the incident.
