Outlaw demands toll from 2 Khulna UP chairmen

A leader of a newly floated outlawed party named New Purbo Bangla Communist Party (NPBCP) has demanded Tk30 lakh as toll from two union parishad (UP) chairmen of Paikgachha upazila. Godaipur UP chairman Kazi Abdus Salam Bacchu and Kapilmuni UP chairman Shahadat Hossain Dublu got the letters at their home addresses on Tuesday afternoon. Identifying the sender of the letters as Paresh Mondol, operation commander of NPBCP, the UP chairmen said the letters were sent from Khulna GPO on last Sunday. Both the UP chairmen separately filed general diaries (GDs) with Paikgachha Police Station seeking security of their lives at about 6:30 pm on Tuesday. In his GD, Godaipur UP chairman Bachchu said that the NPBCP leader has demanded Tk20 lakh from him as toll. Kapilmuni UP chairman Shahadat Hossain Dablu, in his GD, mentioned that the outlawed party leader has demanded Tk10 lakh from him as toll. 'We have been given death threats for failure in payment of toll as demanded by the outlawed party within a week of receiving the letters, the UP chairmen said. Contacted, Paikgachha police station OC Inamul Haque admitted the facts.
