The principal and five teachers of Krishi Biswabiddaloy College on the Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) campus received death threats over cellphone from some 15 students who were disqualified in the test examination. The college authorities also prevented the students from filling up forms for appearing in the upcoming Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations. Those who got death threats are Principal Dr M Ataur Rahman and teachers Bhaskar Sen Gupta, Abu Raihan, Saiful Islam, Safiqul Islam and B M Abdullah. At a press conference held at the college yesterday, the teachers sought police protection and demanded immediate arrest of the students who gave death threats to them. All teachers of the college were present. The disqualified students created pressure on the college authorities overcell phone in the name of local political leaders to allow them to fill up examination forms, Principal Ataur Rahman said. When contacted, the political leaders concerned denied their involvement with the matter, he said. “Disqualified students threatened me and my family members with death last night,” said assistant professor Abu Raihan. “We are passing days in great anxiety as the disqualified students are continuously threatening to kill us along with our family members,” said another teacher, assistant professor Bhaskar Sen Gupta. The teachers said they will file a general dairy (GD) with Kotwali police station in this regard.
