BCC fires 170 class four staff

Our Correspondent, Barisal
The Barisal City Corporation (BCC) authorities have dismissed 170 class four employees of health and sanitation department on Saturday on charge of forging the mayor's signature. The forgery was detected on the recommendation letter during verification of appointment papers recently. BCC workers said that initially there were 600 temporary workers in health and sanitation department. Wage of each worker was Tk 120 per day. In last two years 464 workers were regularised on the basis of mayor's recommendation while the rest 136 are still working on temporary basis. Dismissed employees, however, alleged that they submitted prayers for regularisation through the section officer of health and sanitation department, Dipak Lal Mridha. They also gave him speed money for the purpose, they said. “If any wrong doing was found, that was done by Mridha, not by us”, one of the dismissed employees told this correspondent requesting anonymity. He also demanded punishment to the person responsible. Contacted, Dipak Lal Mridha denied the allegation.
