Robbers loot expat's house, textile mill
26 injured during attacks
Robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables from an expatriate's house in Sylhet and a textile mill in Narsingdi yesterday and the day before.
In Narsingdi, robbers looted cash and valuables from a textile mill at Baghata in Sadar upazila early yesterday.
Police quoting locals said a gang of armed robbers numbering 25/30, in two covered vans, stormed into Ayubpur Textile Mill at about 2:30am, reports UNB.
Later, the robbers looted Tk 40,000 in cash, mobile phone sets and other valuables from the mill keeping the mill workers hostage at gunpoint.
At one stage, the robbers beat and injured 20 workers of the mill as they tried to resist them. Of the injured, Habibur Rahman, a supervisor of the mill, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital while others were sent to Narsingdi General Hospital.
As local people rushed to the spot hearing a hue and cry, the muggers fled the scene with the booties, leaving behind the two covered vans.
On information, police seized the covered vans and arrested Manirul Islam, driver of one of the vans and its helper Nurun Nabi.
In Sylhet, robbers looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth Tk 15 lakh from the house of an expatiate at Julai village in Kanaighat upazila on the day before.
Family members said, a gang of masked armed robbers numbering 15/16 entered the house of France expatriate Faruk Ahmed by breaking open the door at about 4:00am. They looted 15 tolas of gold ornaments, Tk 5 lakh in cash and other valuables keeping members of the house hostage at gunpoint.
Faruk's brother Siraj Ahmad, 40, and nephew Abul Hasnat, 25, were injured by the robbers as they tried to resist them. They were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital.
