Robbers loot houses of 3 expatriates

Robbers looted gold, cash and other valuables worth Tk 60 lakh from three houses of expatriates in Faridpur and Sylhet districts on Wednesday. Robbers in Faridpur looted the house of expatriate doctor Md Akramuzzaman's house at West Alipur in the town early yesterday, reports our correspondent. Zarzia Akter Nisha, mother of Aktaruzzaman, also a schoolteacher was injured as the gang attacked her with sharp weapons, police said. Locals said, around 3:00 am, a gang of 10 to 12 robbers entered the house of the London expatriate doctor, cutting the grills of the kitchen. They took the members of the house hostage at gunpoint. Later breaking almirah and iron safe, the robbers took away Tk 5 lakh, 20 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables worth about Tk 15 lakh. In Golapganj upazila of Sylhet, robbers decamped with cash and goods worth Tk 45 lakh from the houses of two expatriates, reports UNB. Locals said, a gang of masked robbers numbering 7/8 entered the house of London expatriate Tajel Ahmed, in Daripatan area of Golapganj municipality around 3:00 am yesterday breaking the collapsible gate and took the house members hostage at gunpoint. Later, they looted 45 tolas of gold, Tk 5 lakh in cash, four mobile sets and a video camera worth over Tk 25 lakh. On information, police rushed to the spot and detained a man for interrogation. Meanwhile, another gang of armed robbers stormed into the house of Joynal Abedin, a Saudi expatriate, in the upazila town and looted cash and other valuables worth Tk 10 lakh late at night. Separate cases were filed with the police.
