48-hour transport strike in Rangpur

Transport workers have called 48-hour strike on all routes of Rangpur district from today in protest against the attack on MA Mojid, former secretary of district Motor Shramik Union and others. Rangpur Bibhag Sarak Paribahan O Shramik Federation at a meeting yesterday evening took the decision after a clash between two groups of rival transport workers in Rangpur bus station area in the afternoon, said Akter Hossain Badal, president of the federation. Following the incident, police arrested two workers-- Azizul Islam, 22, and Ashraful, 20--from the spot. They also recovered a few lethal weapons from a pond in the area. Chandon Kumar, sub-inspector of Kotwali police station, said a number of transport workers led by Harun attacked Mojid while he was coming to the terminal. Later, followers of the former union leader made a counter attack, leaving five people injured including Harun.
