Two housewives murdered

Two housewives were killed allegedly by their husbands in Sirajganj and Savar on Tuesday and the day before. Housewife Ankhi Rani, 18, was killed allegedly by her husband Ashim Chandra Sutradhar for dowry in Maijhail Ghoshpara village under Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj on Tuesday night. Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Belkuchi police station, said the victim was married to Ashim only two years ago. Ashim used to torture her often for dowry since their marriage, reports our correspondent. On the fateful night, Ashim strangled Ankhi at about 11:30 after a feud over the matter and fled the scene. Belkuchi police, on information, recovered the body yesterday morning and sent it to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Bipul Chandra Sutradhar, brother of the victim, lodged a murder case accusing eleven people including the family members of Ashim. In Savar, a young housewife was tortured to death allegedly by her husband and father-in-law at Bhabanhati village under Dhamrai police station on Monday, reports UNB. Neighbours said, Lipi Akhter, 24, daughter of Joynal Abedin, was married off with co-villager Mamun, 30, reportedly a drug addict, seven years ago. The groom and his family used to torture Ankhi since the marriage over flimsy grounds. On the fateful night, Mamun and his father Dalil Uddin mercilessly beat up Lipi, leaving her dead on the spot. Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to hospital for autopsy. Joynal Abedin alleged that Dhamrai police, under the influence of a section of local influential people, refused to record his complaint when he went to the police station to lodge a murder case.
