School kids in Mymensingh, Rangamati and Bhola spent an eventful day through participating in joyful activities to develop language skills as they took part in English language fairs at three schools in the districts yesterday. Under English in Schools (EIS) programme, The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi jointly organised the fairs in coordination with the education ministry to encourage development of English language proficiency among secondary school students. Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner of the fair. Students of Phulpur Pilot High School in Phulpur upazila of Mymensingh, Betbunia High School in Rangamati, and Government Girls' High School at Bhola joined the fairs at their school auditoriums, reports our correspondents. Each of the fair venues saw screening of Lion King, a globally renowned movie, followed by students' participation in spot quiz, vocabulary test, one word question and quick questions---all based on the movie. Selected students also took part in extempore speech on different topics and role-play. In Mymensingh, more than 100 students of Phulpur Pilot High School, their teachers and family members took part in the festival titled “Safalyo Ashbei” (success is a must) at the school auditorium. Phulpur Pilot High School teachers Abu Raihan Talukder, Nasreen Akhter Khatun and Emdadul Hoque spoke at a discussion held at the venue. This wonderful event has encouraged school students to learn English in a different and interesting way, the speakers said at the discussion. Prizes were distributed among the winners of different events at the end of the programme. In Rangamati, some 100 students of Betbunia High School participated in the fair at the school auditorium.
