UPDF man held with arms
An activist of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), an anti-CHT peace deal outfit, was arrested along with arms by security personnel in Horidhan Mogpara area under Matiraga upazila on Sunday night.
The arrestee, Somiran Chakma, 29, is son of late Bojaiya Chakma of Batchharapara area under Lakkhichhari upazila of the district.
The security men seized a homemade gun, three bullets, two knives, toll collecting papers and some Indian rupees from the possession of Somiran.
Acting on secret information, a patrol team from Matiranga army zone raided the Horidhan Mogpara area around 07:30pm of Sunday as a five-member UPDF team was holding a meeting there.
Somiran was held with arms while the rest managed to flee, said officer-in-charge (OC) of Matiranga police station Mohammad Yusuf.
Later, the arrestees were handed over to Matiranga police station yesterday.
