Five 'drug peddlers' arrested in four dists

Five alleged drug peddlers were arrested along with contraband items in Jessore, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Chuadanga districts on Friday and Saturday. Police arrested two drug peddlers along with hemp from Chachra Ramkrisna road area in Jessore town on Saturday night, reports our Benapole correspondent. The arrestees are Jasim Uddin, 30, son of Alam Mia and Bulbul Ahmed, 25, son of Bodoruddin of Kagojpukur village under Banapole Port Station. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided the spot at about 10:00pm and held the duo with 1 kg hemp, while they were going to Dhaka carrying the contraband item, said Ashraf Hossain, officer in-charge of Jessore police station. In Sylhet, police arrested a drug peddler along with 15 bottles of liquor and 500 grams of hemp from a tea stall at Darbastu Bazaar in Jointapur upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB. The arrestee is Rabbani, 35, son of late Kunu Mia of Bichhnatek village in the upazila. On secret information, a team of police led by Jointapur Model police station ASI Rashedul Alam Khan raided a tea stall at about 8:30pm and arrested Rabbani along with the phensidyl and the hemp. In Moulvibazar, police arrested a woman drug peddler along with 180 bottles of phensidyl syrup from her house at Sampasi village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night. The arrestee was identified as Nasima Begam, 30, wife of Ana Miah of the village. Moulvibazar Model police station SI Dipangkar said on secret information, they conducted a drive at Nasima's house at about 8:00pm and arrested her along with the contraband drugs. Her husband went into hiding sensing the presence of the law enforcers. In Chuadanga, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested drug peddler Jahid, son of Abdul Jalil, along with 20 grams of heroin from Kanalpara area of Alamdanga upazila town on Friday night. On secret information, a team of Rab-6 raided the area and arrested Jahid along with the contraband heroin.
