Settlers' deadline to rescue 5 fishermen
Parbatya Chattagram Samo Odhikar Andolan (SOA), a platform of Bangalee settlers, yesterday gave a 20-hour ultimatum to Rangamati district administration to rescue the five abducted fishermen. Otherwise, they threatened to enforce a day-long hartal in the district today.
Payer Ahmad Khan, convenor of SOA district unit, gave the deadline at a press conference at Rangamati Press Club at around 10:00am. Md Anwar Khan, Moshiul Alam Humayun and Abu Bakar Siddique were present.
Unknown criminals picked up five fishermen from bordering Tabalabagh in Barkal upazila at midnight on December 6. They are Ramjan Ali, 25, Yusuf Ali, 30, Mokhles Ali, 22, Zahed Ali, 20, and Azahar Ali, 27. They all are from Bhusonchhara area of the upazila.
The five went to fishing on Sunday midnight at Tabalabug area without permission from BGB from where they were kidnapped by miscreants, BGB sources said.
After the incident, Bangalee settlers in Bhusonchhara area staged demonstrations demanding steps of the authorities concerned to rescue the fishermen.
