10 hurt as AL, BNP men lock in clash
At least 10 people including three policemen were injured in a clash between the activists of AL and BNP at Samirmunshir Hat under Senbagh upazila on Thursday night.
The injured are SI Abul Kashem, his assistant Sumon Barua and constable Salauddin, BNP activists Md Selim, Md Solaiman, Nizam Uddin, Md Ali and AL activists Sahabuddin, Md Omar Faruk and Babar Ali.
Salauddin and Babar Ali were admitted to Senbagh upazila health complex.
Police arrested BNP activists Mahmudur Rahman Raju, Abdul Azim Mintu and Ibrahim, during the incident.
Sajedur Rahman, officer in-charge of Senbagh police station, said both BNP and AL activists decided to hold Victory Day meetings on western side of the Samirmunshir Hat on Friday.
On Thursday, at around 11:00pm, both the groups gathered on the spot to set up their stages. At this, the AL activists all of a sudden started vandalising the motorbikes of BNP men near the site.
On hearing the news, BNP activists rushed to the spot and tried to resist the activists triggering a violent clash.
On information, a police team went to the spot to bring the situation under control. But the clashing groups attacked them leaving three policemen injured.
Police filed a case against 15 BNP activists while AL activist Mosharraf Hossain filed a case against 80 unnamed BNP activists.
