Bijoy Mela starts in Manikganj

A 15-day-long Bijoy Mela (victory fair) began at the Manikganj Government Boys' playground, locally known as Bijoy Melar Math, yesterday afternoon. State minister Captain (retired) ABM Tajul Islam, also a veteran freedom fighter, formally inaugurated the victory fair at 4:00pm as chief guest. Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, chairman of the Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela Udjapon Parishad-2011 and general secretary of Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Awami League presided over the inaugural function. Local lawmakers ABM Anwarul Haque, Momtaz Begum, lawmaker from Rajshahi-6 constituency Shahriar Alam, Manikganj Municipality mayor Md. Ramzan Ali, chairmen of former committee of Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela Mofizul Islam Khan Kamal, local elites Tobarak Hossain Ludu, Golam Mohiuddin, Iqbal Hossain Khan, Jamilur Rashid Khan, Afzal Hossain Khan Joki, Azaharul Islam Arzu, Mizanur Rahman Hazrat and member secretary of Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela Udjapon Parishad-2011 Azad Hossain Khan were present. 'Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela' takes place every year on December-13 on the occasion of 'Manikganj liberation day'. Photo exhibition on the Liberation War, discussions, cultural functions and sports competition are some of the features of the fair. At least 300 stalls have been set up at the fair venue. Circus, puppet show are the most attractive items of the fair. Thousands of people gathered on the inaugural day of the fair which will remain open from 6:00am to 12:00 midnight every day till December 28.
