Detective Branch (DB) police arrested the main accused in the recently filed case for slaying a young man over love affairs, from Bayezid Bostami area of port city Chittagong on Saturday night. Arrestee Mamotaz Ali alias Jogru Mamotaz, 48, is son of late Mohammad Ali of Rajobpara village in Mohishkhocha union under Aditmari upazila of the district. A DB team led by SI Abdul Mannan from the district went to Chittagong on Wednesday night. Mannan said they went to the spot on the basis of Mamotaz Ali's mobile phone call list and Mohishkhocha union village cops helped them identify the accused. "DB police will be able to arrest all others involved with the killing soon as Mamotaz has already given enough information for that”, he said Quoting Mamotaz Ali, DB police told this correspondent that Jalodhor Chandra Roy, 28, son of Premanando Roy of Uttar Gobdha village under Aditmari upazila was murdered following a village arbitration on 18 November. Around 20 people including local UP member and three teachers were present at the arbitration. Police said a love affair developed over mobile phone between Jalodhor and Mamotaz Ali's daughter. The girl called the young man to their home at Rajobpara village of Mohishkhocha union on 17 November night. At this, the family members of the girl physically tortured Jalodhor for whole night till next morning and then murdered him in day light at their home. Victim's father Premanando Roy the next day lodged a murder case accusing Mamotaz Ali, 48, his wife Nurjahan Begum, 42, their two daughters and 20 others unidentified people with Aditmari police station. As the Aditmari police failed to make any headway in the case, it was transferred to DB police on 30 November.
