BGB, BSF to work for curbing border crimes
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Border Security Force (BSF) of India have agreed to hold joint patrol at night to curb trans-border crimes.
The decision was taken at a sector commander level coordination meeting of the two forces held at Sonamasjid land port of Shibgonj upazila in the district on Saturday.
At the meeting it was decided to resist terrorism, stop intrusion, drug and human traffickings.
The two border forces also agreed to maintain 'peaceful co-existence' in the bordering areas, showing maximum tolerance and resolving any problem through discussion.
The officials also said that they would try to settle disputes through discussions and by taking necessary measures in time.
Several trans-border problems like illegal migration, border fencing, smuggling of explosives and firearms, killing of Bangladesh nationals by Indian border guards, harbouring of criminals, drug smuggling came up for discussion at the two-hour meeting.
BGB Rajshahi Sector Commander Colonel Ehia Azam Khan led a six-member Bangladesh team while DIG Amarjit Singh of Maldah Sector headed an eight-member team of the BSF at the talks.
