Punish Bakkar's killers

Residents of Tikrampur area agitated in the town yesterday demanding arrest and punishment of the culprits who killed a local youth last month. Hundreds of people brought out a procession from Shaheed Satu Hall premises in the moring. The processionists paraded different roads of the town and held a rally in front of deputy commissioner's (DC) office. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the superintendent of police (SP), Chapainawabganj. At the rally, the speakers alleged that the killers of Abu Bakkar Siddique were moving freely under the nose of police. Abu Bakkar,35, son of late Nazrul Islam of Tikrampur in the town went missing since one Babu called him out of the house on November 19 afternoon, police and locals said. Criminals confined Bakkar to a room at Dhoroil village under Nachole upazila where they beat up and tortured him. On a tip-off, police went to the village and rescued Abu Bakkar the next day. Serioiusly injured, he was rushed to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital immediately where he died the same day. Relatives and friends of the victim later caught Babu,35, of Natunhat area in the town and handed him over to police. Victim's uncle advocate Shamsul Haque filed a murder case against 48 men with Nachole police station. We want an exemplary punishment to the killers, so that nobody dares to commit such crime again, the speakers said. Among others, advocate Mizanur Rahman, Shahidul Huda Alok, Faizur Rahman Kanak and Arman Ali spoke at the rally. Police said, criminals killed Abu Bakkar over a disputed land. The killers are on the run, they said.
