Police yesterday arrested a poacher with skin of a tiger from Mothbaria bus stand in Mothbaria upazila of Pirojpur district. Acting on a tip-off, they raided the bus stand when poacher Nabi Hossain, 50, was going to Dhaka with the 7-feet long tiger skin worth about Tk 1 crore at about 9:00am. Later as per his statement, police recovered about 30 bones including head and skeleton of tiger from the house of one Moslem Gazi in Babur Hat area of Shapleza union. Earlier, Nabi Hossain was arrested with deer and crocodile heads from Bagerhat district several times and later released on bail. Poacher Nabi is son of Motahar Hossain of Chal Rayenda village under Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat. He was sued at least six times for poaching, police said. Sundarbans divisional forest officer east zone Mihir Kumar Do said the size of the skin suggests that the tiger was 5-6 years old. Nabi Hossain is a listed poacher. He faces several cases for similar crime, he added. Five people including Nabi Hossain and Moslem Gazi were sued with Mothbaria PS yesterday.
