Two factories fined Tk 5.29 lakh
Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined two washing factories Tk 5.29 lakh for discharging untreated chemical waste into Rupnagar Khal (canal) in the city.
The DoE team led by its Director (Enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury
has asked the owners of the factories Modern Industrial Washing and Meghna Washing Limited, located at Box Nagar, Chiriyakhana Road, in Mirpur, to set up effluent treatment plant (ETP) within a time frame fixed by the DoE.
The team found the factories running without any environmental clearance certificate and ETP since long.
The untreated waste was polluting the canal as well as the river Turag as it was falling in the river through the canal.
