Fire kills one, destroys two cinemas, more than 50 shops in Bhola
A young man was burned to death and 20 others sustained injuries in a devastating fire which gutted a large number of shops, storehouses, two cinema halls in Lalmohan upazila town on Sunday night.
The deceased was identified as Dulal, 28, staff of the local Binodon cinema hall and resident of Kishoreganj village of the upazila.
Fire fighters recovered the body early yesterday.
Fire service sources said the fire originated from electric short circuit at around 11:00pm at a tea stall beside Binodon cinema hall and soon engulfed the Binodon and adjacent Modhu Sandhya cinema halls, over 50 grocery, confectionary, stationery and medicine shops, an oil mill and several storehouses.
On information, fire fighting units from Daulatkhan, Charfashion, Lalmohan and Bhola Sadar stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts at 1:00am.
Affected people claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 20 crore.
