17 shops gutted
At least 17 shops were gutted in a fire at Khagrachhari Bazar in the district town early yesterday.
Four grocery shops, three medicine stores, a diagnostic centre, four cloth shops, four godowns and some tea stalls were burnt to ashes. The extent of loss could go up to Tk 3 crore, said the affected shop owners.
Fire brigade sources said, the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a cloth shop at the bazar at around 03:00am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops.
Three fire units doused the flames with the help of local people after one hour of frantic efforts, they added.
