KCC mayor trashes BNP claim
Khulna city Awami League President and KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque yesterday said all mills and factories in Khulna-Jessore industrial belt were shut down during the rule of BNP-led four-party alliance government.
He said this at a press briefing at Khulna Press Club in the morning.
Refuting the allegations made by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia against the Awami League government at a rally here on Sunday last, the city AL chief said thousands of workers had lost their jobs due to closure of mills and factories during her rule.
Branding Khaleda Zia as a liar, Khaleque said she had done nothing for development of Khulna as claimed in the grand rally.
The construction of Khanjahan Ali (RA) Bridge (Rupsha bridge) were completed while Sheikh Hasina was the prime minister in 1996, the KCC mayor said, adding that Khaleda Zia had done nothing but laying foundation stone of the bridge without acquiring land for that purpose during her rule from 1991 to 1996.
The people of south-western region will resist any attempt by her party to stop construction of Rampal power plant in Bagerhat, the mayor said, challenging Khaleda's threat to stop construction of the plant.
He said the four-party alliance government did not allocate necessary funds for development of Khulna metropolitan city as Khaleda also claimed in the grand rally.
The press conference was attended, among others, by President of Khulna district AL Sheikh Harun-or-Rashid, General Secretary Mostafa Rahidhi Suja and City AL General Secretary Mizanur Rahman.
