Sylhet Chamber chief summoned by DoE to explain hill cutting
Department of Environment (DoE) has summoned president of Sylhet Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) Faruque Ahmed Misbah on charge of causing environmental degradation by illegal hill cutting in the district.
DoE Director (Enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury issued a notice yesterday asking the SCCI chief to appear at DoE office in Dhaka at 12 noon today. A copy of the notice has also been sent to the Sylhet divisional office for ensuring its delivery.
Director, DoE, Sylhet division SM Fazlul Karim Chowdhury told this correspondent that the notice was delivered to the members of the house of as he was not available there.
In the notice, the SCCI president has been asked to appear before the said official to explain as to why he should not be fined for causing environmental damage by hill cutting. The SCCI chief has also been asked as to why he should not be fined or sued for the illegal act.
For failure to appear before the official in time, an unilateral decision would be taken the department, the recipient was warned.
The notice was issued following illegal leveling of a hillock in Sylhet Sadar upazila's Foringura mouja recently, sources said.
