3 housewives commit 'suicide'

Three housewives allegedly committed suicide in Rangpur and Kishoreganj districts on Sunday and the day before. A housewife allegedly killed herself in Purbo Shalbon area in Rangpur town on Saturday evening. The deceased was identified as Shondhya Begum,25, wife of Saju Mian, reports our correspondent. According to Kotwali police and Rangpur Medical College and Hospital sources, Shondhya took poison on Saturday evening following a family feud. She was rushed to the hospital, but the on-duty doctor declared her dead. Police recovered body of another housewife on Saturday from a house at Gomostapara in the town. The deceased was identified as Tinni Shaha, 28, wife of Haradhan Shaha. Informed by the locals, police went to the house of Haradhan and recovered the body at about 2:30 pm. Officer in-charge of Kotwali police station Altab Hossain, however, said that Tinni might have been killed and later hung from the ceiling of the house. He said though the family members told him that Tinni committed suicide but he saw no symptom of suicide in the body. In Kishoreganj, an SSC examinee of Kishoreganj Uchha Balika Bidyalaya allegedly committed suicide in the town on Sunday. Deceased Rupa Akter, 16, daughter of Iman Ali of Kandail village in Karimganj upazila was also a housewife, reports our correspondent. Police and locals said, Rupa hanged herself with her scarf from the ceiling in her room in Fishari Road area in Kishoreganj town in absence of other family members at about 12:30pm. Rupa married around two months ago Linkon Mia, 25, son of Kala Mia of the same village without the consent of her family. The suicide might have a link with her marriage, said locals. Mir Mosharraf Hossain, officer in-charge (OC) of Sadar PS said, police also recovered the mobile set of Rupa where they found that she talked with her husband minutes before committing suicide. The body was sent to Kishoreganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
