525 sued by Chitalmari AL leader, police

Two cases were filed against 525 people yesterday in connection with Sunday's clashes between Awami League (AL) and BNP activists over joining the BNP's road march towards Khulna in Chitalmari uapzila headquarters. Local Awami League leader Keramat Ali filed a case with Chitalmari police station against 175 named and 250 unnamed people. Police have already arrested five people in connection with the clashes. They were sent to the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate after interrogation. Meanwhile, Chitalmari police filed another case accusing 25 named people and 75 unnamed people for attack on police during the clashes. Officer in-charge of Chitalmari PS Hasan Hafizur Rahman said, police drive is continuing to arrest the accused and additional police have been deployed as tension heightened among the rival party activists following the Sunday's clash. At least 50 people, including Chitalmari UNO and OC, were injured in a series of clashes between Awami League and BNP activists when some BNP men were going to Sadar uapzila for joining the party's Khulna bound road march Sunday morning.
