Activists of Magura BNP rival faction ransacked the party office run by district unit President Kabir Murad in the town yesterday. The attack on the office was a sequel to an incident occurred in Parnanduali area on Sunday evening, local BNP sources said. Both factions locked in a scuffle in the area at around 6:00pm when the BNP men belonging to Kabir Murad group chanted slogans against former lawmaker Quazi Salimul Haque Kamal, leader of their rival group. The two groups erected arches in Parnanduali area on Dhaka-Magura road to welcome party chairperson Khaleda Zia on her way back to the capital from Khulna and also arranged separate wayside rallies. But the BNP chief passed Magura at around 9:00pm without addressing any of the rallies arranged by the two factions. Police quoted the BNP men of Kabir Murad group as saying that some cadres loyal to Quazi Salimul Haque Kamal attacked the office at around 12:30 pm and damaged furniture. Contacted, Sub-Inspector Daud Hossain of Sadar Police Station said no case in connection with the incident was filed as of 5:00pm yesterday. Internal feud in Magura BNP surfaced in July 2009 over formation of committees at different levels. The two rival factions held separate councils of the district unit on November 18, 2009 and formed separate committees. Later, BNP central committee approved Kabir Murad committee.
