KCC mayor opens controversial memorial plaque at Kuet
KCC mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque on Wednesday inaugurated the plaque of the controversial memorial on AKM Ahsanullah Bhuiyan alias Mehedi, a late BCL leader, at Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (Kuet).
President of Kuet Chhatra League and student of civil engineering department, Ahsanullah died on November 22 last year allegedly after drinking excessive rectified spirit at a hotel room in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia district.
The mayor in his inaugural speech justified the move for the memorial while smelling a conspiracy behind the death of Ahsanullah Mehedi.
Meanwhile, the three-day work stoppage that started on November 22 by Kuet Teachers' Association ended yesterday amid sharp reaction and protest against inauguration of the memorial by KCC mayor.
The teachers went on work stoppage demanding demolition of the memorial and threatening resignation en masse in case of failure by the VC to meet their demand.
President of Kuet Teachers' Association Prof Arif Hossain yesterday told this correspondent that deans, provosts, directors and departmental heads would resign on Sunday. Besides, the association will launch a tougher programme, he said.
Contacted, vice chancellor Professor Alamgir said he would sit with the agitating teacher shortly, possibly by Friday, to resolve the crisis.
