Ansar sued for felling roadside trees
A case was filed against a district commander of Ansar and VDP (Village Development Party) on Tuesday on charge of felling government trees at Taluk Khutamara village in the district town.
An official, on behalf of Lalmonirhat district council, filed the case with Sadar police station.
Plaintiff of the case Yunus Ali alleged that district commander of Ansar and VDP SM Zakir Hossain felled roadside Mahogony trees worth about Tk 50 thousand in front his residence at Taluk Khutamara village on Friday and Saturday.
Yunus said that he himself and some other officials of the district council had asked Zakir not to fell the roadside trees. But Zakir didn't hear them and misbehaved with the officials.
The Ansar and VDP commander took away three trees to a local saw mill and cut them to pieces for making personal furniture, he added.
“Finally as per decision of the district council, I filed a case against the said Ansar and VDP commander,” he told this correspondent.
Contacted, chief executive officer of Lalmonirhat district council Mohammad Shahjahan said, Zakir illegally felled the trees. Police will now take necessary steps as the district council lodge a case, he added.
When asked, Zakir Hossain said he won't make any remark as a case has already been filed.
