Indefinite bus strike in Satkhira

Bus owners and transport workers here yesterday jointly enforced an indefinite bus strike on all the eight routes of the district protesting assault on transport workers by a few local people on Sunday. Agitated local people at Budhata in Assassuni upazila also damaged four buses to protest death of a man in road accident on Saturday. Vehicular movement between the district and Assassuni, Khulna, Jessore, Shyamnagar, Kaliganj, Tala and Debhata upazilas was disrupted due to yesterday's strike. Hundreds of commuters including government and non-government officials and staffs, and admission seekers of Honours courses suffered much as no buses plied on any of eight routes in the district. The bus owners and transport workers also demanded arrest of those who attacked the transport workers and damaged the buses. Locals said, shrimp trader Jahangir Alam, 42, son of Mominul Islam Sardar of village Chapra in Assassuni upazila was killed in a road accident near Chiledanga intersection on Satkhira-Assassuni Road on Saturday. Following the incident, agitated people on and often attacked the buses at Chapra point on Satkhira-Assassuni Road.
