Pharmacists in Dinajpur threaten strike

Our Correspondent, Dinajpur
Dinajpur unit of Bangladesh Chemists and Druggists Association yesterday called upon the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital authorities to meet its three-point demand by today. The demands include cancellation of the decision to allow drug outlets inside the hospital. The leaders also threatened to go for an indefinite strike from tomorrow if the matter remains unresolved within the deadline. Earlier, the executive committee members of the association of 400 drug traders in Dinajpur made the announcement at a press conference at local press club yesterday morning. The two other demands of the association are unconditional withdrawal of a case filed against president and general secretary of its Dinajpur unit and immediate transfer of the director (acting) of Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital. In a written statement they said that Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital authorities decided to lease out 4 of the 6 outlets as gift, snacks and telephone shops. But violating the decision, the hospital authorities leased out those 4 outlets to drug traders on November 10 last year affecting the businesses of drug traders outside the hospital. The drug traders launched a protest and against the decision in January this year. At this, 3 of the 4 drug outlets inside the hospital were shut except for Shahidul Pharmacy which still continued its business there.
