Naznin Nahar Mili, a BA student and newly wed housewife, was killed allegedly by her husband at Betbaria village in the district town on Sunday as she refused to bring dowry money from her parents. Victim's family sources said, Mili, 20, daughter of Akbor Hossain of Betbaria village was married to Mamunur Rashid of same village about two months ago. During the marriage, Mili's father gave a good amount as dowry to Mamunur Rashid, they said. However, Mamunur Rashid had been demanding more money, and for this, he and his family members used to torture her on and often. According to the case, Mamun last week demanded Tk 5,00,000 as dowry. On Sunday morning he asked his wife to go to her father to bring the amount. As Mili refused to do so, Mamun picked up a quarrel over the issue and at one stage beat her mercilessly and poured poison into her mouth, leaving her critically injured. While visiting Sadar Hospital on Monday, this correspondent found several injury marks in the body of the deceased. After the human chain, the protesters submitted a memo to the DC demanding arrest and punishment of the killer of Mili. Contacted, Rofiqul Islam, officer in-charge of Narail police station said a case was filed by the victim's father on Monday. "We are trying to arrest Mamun" he added.
