An assistant sub-inspector of the Detective Branch (DB) of police was closed to Dinajpur police lines on Sunday evening for physically assaulting a street vendor.
Police quoted witnesses as saying that ASI Jahangir of Dinajpur DB Police had an altercation with vendor Bhola over a trivial matter at Lily intersection in the town at around 6:00pm.
At one stage, Jahangir started beating Bhola, son of Solaiman Ali of Bahadur Bazar in the town. As the ASI was trying to leave the scene, local people and other vendors put him under siege.
