Baraigram AL holds procession, rally demanding release of all accused
Ruling party men brought a procession and held a rally here yesterday evening demanding release of the AL leaders and activists held on charge of killing a local BNP leader.
At the rally, they also demanded withdrawal of the case filed against them for allegedly killing Baraigram upazila chairman and BNP leader Sanaullah Noor Babu.
Baraigram upazila unit AL and Bonpara municipal unit AL organised the programme at Bonpara in Baraigram upazila as a Natore court sent all the 27 accused to jail rejecting their bail prayers.
Abdul Jalil, member of the district unit AL, chaired the rally while Mizanur Rahman, president of Baraigram upazila unit AL, Ataur Rahman Ata, acting chairman of Baraigram upazila parishad, and joint secretary of Baraigram unit AL, Momtaz Asharad, vice chairman of Baraigram UP, Shamsuzzoha Shaheb, chairman of Nagar UP under Baraigram upazila, spoke at the rally.
Upazila AL president Mizan said at the rally, "AL activists and supporters have no link with the murder. Babu was killed in intra-party feud".
Nagar UP chairman Shamsuzzoha said, "People of the country have already seen the role of Zakir, Khokon Mollah and Razzak principal in the incident in the video footage. AL activists might have attacked the BNP procession but Zakir, Khokan Mollah were trying to save Babu from the attack."
If the BNP leaders had taken Babu to any hospital timely he might not have died, he clamed.
Also acting chairman of Baraigram UP, Shaheb further said that AL will not allow the BNP to organise any meeting at Baraigram upazila till the AL leaders are acquitted of the case.
Earlier on Sunday, a Natore court sent to jail all 27 accused in Sanaullah Noor Babu murder case after rejected their bail prayers.
The accused, including 11 arrestees, earlier on several occasions took bail from the High Court, sources said.
As their six-month bail terms have expired, they surrendered before the Baraigram cognizance court yesterday noon and Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan passed the order around 1:00pm, said Court Inspector Mahtab Hossain.
The Awami League activists brought a procession in the court area protesting the court decision.
The accused, including KM Zakir Hossain, former information and research secretary of Natore district AL, and Khokon Mollah, president of the party's Bonpara municipality unit, assured the supporters that they would be freed within a short time.
On October 8 last year, a few activists of Awami League attacked a BNP procession at Bonpara Bazar in Natore.
They beat Sanaullah Noor Babu, Baraigram upazila chairman and president of Bonpara municipality BNP dead and injured around 30 others, including the then Bonpara municipality mayor Ishaq Ali and three journalists.
Babu's wife Mohua Noor Kochi filed a murder case against 27 people the following day.
