A Chittagong court yesterday summoned Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed to appear before it in a case filed against his derogatory comments on the prime minister and a local female lawmaker. The case statement quoted Oli, during a conference in Chittagong on November 18, as saying, “Problems of thousands of young people of Chandanaish cannot be solved by only one female lawmaker. “So many more beautiful women should be brought from Tungipara to Chandanaish for the welfare of young people.” The task of overseeing the development works in Chandanaish was given to Chemon Ara, lawmaker of Patia , by the government, said the statement. Oli is the lawmaker of Chandanaish and Tungipara is the hometown of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Oli was also asked to appear in seven days in the order, passed by Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman, after the plaintiff Aftab Mahmud Shimul, a local businessman, filed the case yesterday. The petitioner's counsel Advocate Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury said Oli's comment tarnished image of the prime minister and the female lawmaker.
