Housewife killed for dowry in Sirajganj
Body of a housewife, killed allegedly by her husband for dowry, was recovered at Thakurpur village in Damurhuda upazila of the district on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Sakhi Sonamoni alias Buri, 27, wife of Abdul Khaleque of the village.
Police quoting local people said, Khaleque used to torture his wife for dowry since he got married 10 years ago.
Neighbours said, failing to realise dowry money, Khaleque beat up and then strangled his wife early Saturday and later hanged the body from the ceiling of his house to cover up the crime.
Police recovered the body in the afternoon and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
Khaleque went into hiding immediately after the murder, police said.
